The Orion spacecraft launch abort system is designed to pull the crew capsule to safety in the event of an emergency during launch. Its powerful abort motor can fire within milliseconds and produce about 400,000 pounds of thrust. Simulations run on our Aitken and Electra supercomputers helped researchers visualize the vibrations imparted by the motor plumes onto the vehicle for various launch abort scenarios. In this video, the plumes—represented by animated particles—and vehicle surface are colorized, with red indicating areas of high pressure and blue areas of low pressure. First of all: What is a payload fairing? a payload fairing is an object on a Rocket or Aircraft, Fairings can disconnect from an object, Payload fairings are used mostly on rockets to protect whatever is inside the fairing through the atmosphere, the atmosphere is mostly made out of Nitrogen gas, which is very cold & if the rocket is going too fast, the rocket will burn as it ascends through the atmosphere. so, a payload fairing can protect a Space Probe through Earth’s atmosphere and after its outside of the atmosphere, it will be disconnected, because it’s no longer needed. After that, the rocket reaches Low Earth Orbit or get into an orbit around the Sun. Payload fairings can be useful for rockets but what about aircrafts? Even though rocket fairings can disconnect, a fairing on an aircraft can also disconnect, but nobody, not even the pilot can disconnect it, why? Because the fairing on an aircraft is used as a structure, not as a fairing.
Why is the Moon so dusty? On Earth, rocks are weathered by wind and water, creating soil and sand. On the Moon, the history of constant micrometeorite bombardment has blasted away at the rocky surface creating a layer of powdery lunar soil or regolith. For the Apollo astronauts and their equipment, the pervasive, fine, gritty dust was definitely a problem
